Review: My Soul to Take (Soul Screamers #1) by Rachel Vincent

She doesn't see dead people. She senses when someone near her is about to die.

 And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.

Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about her need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who'll be next.

Review:

This book is full of suspense and teenage angst. At times you will find yourself on edge waiting to see what happens, and others your thinking to yourself, seriously are you THANT dense?! Kaylee and Nash make a great couple, but I'm hoping in future books the author will bring into play that socially they are on opposite sides of the school and see what kind of drama that can stir up. I'm acutely interested to find out more about Todd as well, I think a love triangle would be a great twist in the future!
Overall it's a really good book and I'm excited to read the next one.
I was actually surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did being that there are no vampires...

Audible was having a sale and I found this book among the titles, my deciding factor was the narrator - I've listened to several of her books in the past and enjoyed them so I figured, why not give it a try.

Books by Daniele Lanzarotta

Imprinted Souls is currently FREE on > Smashwords, get it here <!

Entrapped in her grief and sorrow, Lexi roams through life with no purpose. She has not been the same ever since an accident took away her high school boyfriend and soul mate. For a while, Lexi could still feel Matt with her and the dreams reassured her that they were still connected, but with time, the dreams started to fade and the pain of his absence deepened. She was convinced that he was gone, and with him, so was part of her soul, the part of her soul that had been imprinted by Matt.
It would take a different type of imprint to bring Lexi back to life, but that imprint would come with a price. The dangers of being with a vampire who still has strong ties to his human life, and the possibility of losing what is left of her connection with her one and true soul mate, Matt; a hidden connection that still lives within the shadows of what is left of her soul.

Kayla is a 16-year-old girl who was adopted when she was little. She lives a normal life, with great friends, loving adoptive parents, and well... a not-so-great boyfriend. But the reason why she was given up for adoption was far from any usual reason. She was meant to be kept away from the Academy and anything else related to the supernatural beings that could hurt her.

Unfortunately for Kayla, it was only a matter of time before she encountered the creatures from the Otherworld, and there is just no running away from the beings that she can now see.

In trying to protect Kayla by keeping her away from the Academy, she may have just been put in even more danger.

* A Mermaids Curse currently has 1 book, and #2 is on the way! <~ Click here for more info.

Arianna always felt like she didn’t belong in the world where she was born. Ever since she was little, she used to hide behind the rocks in the sea, and watch the human family who spent their summers on that island. Over the years, there was nothing she wished more than to be like them, especially so she could get close to Blake, the human boy who she saw turn into a troubled teenager and then, an unhappy man.

Once her dad grew tired of her dreams and hopes for a reality that is not her own, Arianna is thrown into an arranged marriage, and her only way out of it is to make a deal with the power-hungry man who will give her everything that she has ever dreamed of. Dreams that turn into nightmares as she watches Blake’s world fall apart, because of her and Blake’s inability to control their desires for one another.

Review: Reflected in You (Crossfire #2) by Sylvia Day

Gideon Cross. As beautiful and flawless on the outside as he was damaged and tormented on the inside. He was a bright, scorching flame that singed me with the darkest of pleasures. I couldn't stay away. I didn't want to. He was my addiction... my every desire... mine.

My past was as violent as his, and I was just as broken. We’d never work. It was too hard, too painful... except when it was perfect. Those moments when the driving hunger and desperate love were the most exquisite insanity.

We were bound by our need. And our passion would take us beyond our limits to the sweetest, sharpest edge of obsession...

Review:

This book didn't disappoint!
It was full of suspense, drama and it almost had a mystery feel to it as you try to figure out who's doing what and or who, as well as speculation on Gideon's secrets. I mean, what IS he hiding?! lol Sometimes it a bit frustrating, but in a good way, I just want to yell at the characters and tell them how stupid they are being, but that's a good thing right, it means I'm invested in the characters - and once again Sylvia Day pulled me in and kept me entertained for a few hours.

I can't wait for the next book to be released so I can read it! I do like that there is no cliff hanger, I could stop reading the series now and I wouldn't feel like I'm missing out on the end. Don't get me wrong, I WILL be reading book 3!!

Review: Bared to You by Sylvia Day

Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness…

He was beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…

Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private wounds…and desires.The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn't tear us apart...

Review:

 I prefer an actual storyline vs reading a porn... with that said, in my opinion this book was much better than the 50 Shades series. There is more story than steamy. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of steamy scenes, but it didn't leave me feeling like I just read the script to a porn flick. There were more characters and background info to set up future books.

** spoiler alert **

 I will say that it was basically the same basic story as 50 Shades - rich guy who has sexual issues falls for an insecure woman, they make the press, he has family problems and an ex that he speaks with frequently causing drama for the new couple, she shares an apartment with her bff, etc etc. Basically the same idea for a book, only one author focused on the bondage and made the book about sex while the other dove into the characters and added the sex as a bonus.

Review: Dead Ever After (Final book in Series)

There are secrets in the town of Bon Temps, ones that threaten those closest to Sookie—and could destroy her heart...

Sookie Stackhouse finds it easy to turn down the request of former barmaid Arlene when she wants her job back at Merlotte’s. After all, Arlene tried to have Sookie killed. But her relationship with Eric Northman is not so clear cut. He and his vampires are keeping their distance…and a cold silence. And when Sookie learns the reason why, she is devastated.

Then a shocking murder rocks Bon Temps, and Sookie is arrested for the crime.

But the evidence against Sookie is weak, and she makes bail. Investigating the killing, she’ll learn that what passes for truth in Bon Temps is only a convenient lie. What passes for justice is more spilled blood. And what passes for love is never enough..

Review:

I'm sad that the series has come to an end, and while it isn't how I would have ended the story I still thoroughly enjoyed the series from beginning to end.
This book did have the feel of someone trying to end a series, it is packed full of info, and sometimes its just a totally random character popping in to tell their end game story. It just didn't have the easy flow that some of the earlier books seemed to have. It was definitely time to come to a close.

It saddens me that people were actually making threats and were so upset that they felt the need to leak the story before it's release date. If your that upset about a book, write your own and then you can end it any way you want!

Personally, I say Thank You to Charlaine Harris for creating one of my favorite series that spawned my favorite TV show, and entertaining me for years!

( TEAM ERIC TIL THE END! ) In my head I wrote a new ending. ;)

Review: Wicked Kiss (Nightwatchers # 2)

My kiss can kill.

I used to be ordinary Samantha Day, but that's changed. Now, after one dark kiss from a dangerous boy, I can steal someone's soul…or their life. If I give in to the constant hunger inside me, I hurt anyone I kiss. If I don't…I hurt myself.
Bishop is the one whose kiss I crave most, but if I kiss him, I'll kill him. Then there's another boy, one I can't hurt. One whose kiss seems to miraculously quell my hunger. They're both part of a team of angels and demons that's joined forces in my city to fight a mysterious rising darkness, an evil that threatens everyone I know and love. I just wonder if I'll be able to help Bishop—or if I'm just another part of the darkness he's sworn to destroy….

Review

This series is WAY to short!
As with Michelle's Nightshade series, 2 books just isn't enough for me! I want more.
I'm good with the way she ended the series, but I have already been running through the different possibilities for a future continuations. lol I just can't help myself.
I love the characters, there could have been a little more love triangle drama to increase the suspense, but it was still a really good dynamic between the characters that kept me on my toes. I was hoping for more Craven, I'm always drawn to the bad boys for some reason...

I will be reading more of Michelle's work in the near future!

2 Exciting New Releases

Are you ready for them?! These 2 books come out TOMORROW, The Morganville Vampires series is growing close to it's end with only 1 remaining book. BUT sadly tomorrow the LAST Sookie Stackhouse Series, Southern Vampire Novels, or True Blood series - whichever name you prefer - comes to an end! We will finally get our answers.
Are you Team Eric or Team Bill... maybe Team Alcede or even Team Sam? Perhaps someone completely unexpected will swoop in and steal Sookie's heart. I'm excited and incredibly saddened by this, but it will not keep me from reading it!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Claire never thought she’d leave Morganville, but when she gets accepted into the graduate program at MIT, she can’t pass up the opportunity. Saying good-bye to her friends is bittersweet, especially since things are still raw and unsettled between Claire and her boyfriend, Shane.
Her new life at MIT is scary and exciting, but Morganville is never really far from Claire’s mind. Enrolled in a special advanced study program with Professor Irene Anderson, a former Morganville native, Claire is able to work on her machine, which is designed to cancel the mental abilities of vampires.
But when she begins testing her machine on live subjects, things quickly spiral out of control, and Claire starts to wonder whether leaving Morganville was the last mistake she’ll ever make...
Review: Dark Kiss (Nightwatchers #1) by Michelle Rowen
NIGHTWATCHERS
When angels and demons must work together, something beyond evil is rising...
Smart, über-careful, ordinary Samantha-that's me. But I just couldn't pass up a surprise kiss from my number-one unattainable crush. A kiss that did something to me...something strange. Now I feel hungry all the time, but not for food. It's like part of me is missing-and I don't know if I can get it back.
Then there's Bishop. At first I thought he was just a street kid, but the secrets he's keeping are as intense as his unearthly blue eyes. If he's what I think he is, he may be the only one who can help me. But something terrifying is closing in, and the one chance Bishop and I have to stop it means losing everything I ever wanted and embracing the darkness inside me....
Review:
I've read Michelle's Nightshade series so I was intrigued by her writing a YA series. Book 1 came up on an Audible sale, so I thought I'd try it out.
I will start by saying I LOVED it! I couldn't stop listening! The characters are sarcastic and fun even as they are surrounded by darkness and drama. The chemistry between them is perfect and you can almost see the story playing out in your head as you read it. Now I will say, it does have a Vampire Diaries feel to it... A girl that is a rare paranormal anomaly, her love interest the Angel, but the attraction to his brother the demon. The storyline does make for great suspenseful drama though and I've already started on book 2.
Review: Lover Unleashed by JR Ward
Payne, twin sister of Vishous, is cut from the same dark, warrior cloth as her brother: A fighter by nature, and a maverick when it comes to the traditional role of Chosen females, there is no place for her on the Far Side… and no role for her on the front lines of the war, either.
When she suffers a paralyzing injury, human surgeon Dr. Manuel Manello is called in to treat her as only he can- and he soon gets sucked into her dangerous, secret world. Although he never before believed in things that go bump in the night- like vampires- he finds himself more than willing to be seduced by the powerful female who marks both his body and his soul.
As the two find so much more than an erotic connection, the human and vampire worlds collide … just as a centuries old score catches up with Payne and puts both her love and her life in deadly jeopardy.
Review:
    Another good book by JR Ward - but again the series has become so repetitive. Every book is the same set up, the focus is on one soon to be couple with continuing background stories on the couples from previous books, along with some random side story that may or may not make sense at the end or in a future book.
    There were some good twists in this one, but another random side story that semi ties in with the main characters, or at least you can see where it will in a future book.
    6 or 7 books in a series like this... okay. But 11 or 12 is pushing it for me. I'm only continuing so I can see how it all ends up, but I'm ready for a new plot!
