This Book Contains Adult Content!!!!

Excerpt:

Gabe watched with a slight smile on his face. Seeing his friend with Peri on his lap gladdened his heart. Seeing the difference the Witch had made to Josef, seeing the love between them. It was a sight that had Gabe yearning for the mating too.

His Wolf had been howling in his head for days. Its need to mark Peri was strong. Gabe had fought, and won, so far. Now they were nearly home and the mating would be soon.

“Tomorrow.” Josef answered the thoughts going through Gabe’s head. Peri was tired, emotionally drained. They would let her rest for the remainder of the day and night.

Tomorrow they would mate, binding the three of them together for eternity.

Gabe nodded his head, knowing that Josef was right. Peri would need some time to rest before they commenced the mating. After all, it would take a lot out of her, and them. A smile played on his face as he thought on it though. He couldn’t wait to mark their Witch and truly bond with her.

Peri looked between the two, wondering what Josef had meant about tomorrow.

“Tonight you will eat, Peri. You haven’t eaten properly for days. No arguments. You will eat and you will rest. Tomorrow? Tomorrow we will mate, little Witch.” Josef pulled her body tighter to his own and he could feel her excitement through her weariness and grief.

Genre: Mystery Suspense Romance Thriller
Publisher: Breathless Press
Date of Publication: February 21, 2014
 Cover Artist: Fiona Jayde
ISBN: 978-1-77101-225-6       ASIN: B00IKVVKL4
 48 Pages, 14,936 Words

Book Description:

Mystery and Romance blend together when competing detectives
Carolyn Woods and Jack Heart are both hired to solve the murder of Pete Wallace, only to realize they are working the same case. To complicate things, Carolyn and Jack have an on again-off again relationship. Then there is Evan Jones, a handsome architect— but he's also a suspect.

Can Carolyn manage to solve the case as more and more murders pile up? Will her relationship with Jack hinder their investigations? And what about Evan Jones? He seems like the perfect man, but could he actually be the murderer? One thing is for sure: someone close to both Carolyn and Jack has A Taste For Killing.

Excerpt:

He had six-pack abs, and I wanted to feel the carbonation. This one dressed like the stereotype of a construction worker, down to the handkerchief he used to wipe sweat off his forehead. I don't know if he or the hot day brought it out, but sweat poured off of me too. He had no interest in me as a person, though. I was invading his territory. Still, I enjoyed the view. For my part, I knew my clothes looked crappy. I didn’t have to wear uniforms anymore, but my street clothes, well they were very—street. So there I stood, a turd in the sun in front of this Adonis. Oh well.

He pointed to a small trailer up a muddy hill. The supervisor I asked to see apparently stayed in there. Stayed, as in never left. Great. Mud. Now I'd be a dried turd in the sun. Adonis went back to digging and I started the trek up the hill. At least I came with boots. Steel toed.
Once I made it to the trailer, I heard an argument going on inside.
"Look, I don't care who you are. The plans are publicly filed. Go get them yourself!" yelled someone.
Then I heard a voice I knew. Calm, cool, subversive. "Is there any reason you're being so difficult? A man did die on your watch."

An encounter I hadn’t planned on. Well, at least not until later tonight. I knocked loudly on the door and with my sweetest voice said, "Hello, boys. Am I interrupting something?"
"Great," groused the supervisor. "A party." He appeared to me like another stereotype, puffing on a cigar over a fat jowl line and rotund stomach that threatened to overturn the small desk he was behind. I guess there's a reason for stereotypes. He looked about four hamburgers away from a heart attack.

On a wooden chair in front of the supervisor sat Jack. A fellow independent detective, an ally at times, a competitor...and my on and off lover.
"Well, well, well," he said smiling, but I could tell he wasn’t happy to see me. Not here. It meant we were both working the same case. "Hello, Carolyn. Who hired you?"
"Parents."
"Girlfriend," he answered back.
We stared at each other. Complications.
The supervisor didn’t give a damn and said to me, "Well, missy, I'll tell you the same thing I told this guy." He jerked his thumb around to Jack. "The plans are publically filed and that’s all I have to say about it."

I tried a different tactic. "That’s fine with me. I have no problem going downtown for a copy." I wore my practiced, saccharine smile. "But I wonder, could you tell me the name of the architect? Please?" I smiled again. God, this job sucks at times.
The supervisor sighed. "Jones, Evan Jones."
"Thank you so much," I said, smiling my best smile again. "I'll get out of the way and leave you two boys to...whatever you were doing."

I opened the door to go and started to shut it only to find Jack following me out.
"Sure, flash your tits and get what you want." Boy was he in a bad mood.
"There was no tit flashing in there. Face it, testosterone was not a good choice in that situation."
Jack's response: a grunt.
"Besides," I tried to placate him, "I didn’t get the plans either."
"No, you did one better."
"That's assuming the architect will have anything to do with me and cooperate." A thought occurred to me. "So are you going there too?"
"No, I might as well wait and see what you turn up. Besides, I have my own leads."
"Are you planning to share?" Just call me hopeful. As in full of shit, because that’s where hope always seemed to lead.
"No," he said, still grumpy.
"I see. So it's gonna be like that."
"I guess so."
I felt like such a female. Damn. But I had to ask.
"Are we still on for tonight?"
"Yeah."

I wasn’t convinced but didn’t push it. God, sometimes I hated myself. But we were good together—when it was good—when his competitive edge didn’t get the better of him. Though I was one to talk. I did the same thing at times. Hence our on and off status. But currently we were supposed to be on. So, I kept it light in the spirit of things to come.
"Okay, master detective, I'll leave you to your leads. See ya."
"See ya," he replied, already preoccupied, pondering a piece of paper he'd taken from his pocket.
I made my way down the hill in my muddy boots.

My Review:

Beware of possible spoilers:

Carolyn and Jack are competing detectives both hired by separate parties to investigate the same murder - but their relationship isn't that clear cut. They've been lovers on and off for over 5 years, and they are currently on!
Talk about a complicated situation. Add to that, Evan, a confident and sexy architect and suspect, and the murder victims fiancee, Elise, that seems to be throwing herself at every man involved, and we have a hurricane of possible scenarios.
Will Carolyn and Jack stay objective, or let their love lives pull the wool over their eyes?

The story keeps you guessing until the very end. It was full of twists and turns and kept your mind racing with possible scenarios. There is a great attention to detail, which I love. I also really like that Evan didn't fall into the stereotypically hot guy love interest. He's confident and sexy, yes - but it's not in your face, he doesn't have that arrogant 'I am man, worship me' feel. He wears glasses and suits and is genuinely nice.
I couldn't quite get a feel for Jack, it's almost as if he didn't know what he had until it was gone... he didn't even put up a fight. It was weird. I was half expecting a crazy plot twist at the end that would leave you wowed, but it was simply a nice ending to a good story.

I really enjoyed it. 4 Stars.

Review: Roaring Midnight by Colleen Gleason

Roaring Midnight
The Gardella Vampire Chronicles - Spin Off
Colleen Gleason

From NEW YORK TIMES and USA Today bestselling author Colleen Gleason, the long-awaited spin-off of the international bestselling Gardella Vampire Chronicles.

Amid the glitzy age of Jazz, when gangsters and bootleggers control the cities, there lies another, more insidious threat ... the undead.

Macey Gardella is a typical young woman of the Roaring Twenties: she works a job, has her own flat, and loves to dance the Charleston. But when a mysterious man named Sebastian Vioget informs her she belongs to a family of vampire hunters, Macey is stunned and disbelieving.

Yet, strange and frightening things begin to happen, and when Macey comes face-to-face with one of the fanged creatures, she has no choice but to believe Sebastian. And when she learns his own soul depends on her willingness to carry forth the family legacy and hunt the undead, Macey capitulates and joins the fight.

As she begins to learn about her new life, Macey meets the handsome newspaper reporter known as Grady--who seems to know more about vampires than he should. When he begins to ask too many questions, she has to juggle her strong attraction to him with the need for secrecy.

Slipping into speakeasies and sampling bootlegged whiskeys, dodging gangster gunfire and trying to keep her nosy landlady from finding the stakes in her flat, Macey Gardella must navigate through a world of stunning violence, passionate romance, and dark betrayal...

My Review

It breaks my heart to give this 3 stars because The Gardella Vampire Chronicles is my absolute favorite series of all time; The Regency Draculia spin off series was good too; but this spin off just didn't do anything for me.

The book starts off slow, and continues at a dragging pace until a little after the half way mark. I enjoyed the setting, with the 20's era speakeasies and gangsters - but I didn't want to read about history - I wanted to read about blood thirsty vampires and the great Venators that hunt and kill them. It was ridiculous how easily one of the oldest vampires in existence was killed so easily. Macey doesn't compare to Victoria, and even she couldn't get that job done...

I was surprised at the reveal of another villain turned Venator, but I'm not sure how that is supposed to play out in the future. My favorite character from the original series, Sebastian, seems to have lost something. He's not the same exciting, sexy vampire that I've compared all male vampires to over the last few years.

It's sad really. Sometimes you just need to leave a good thing alone. I will read the next book in the series when it comes out in hopes that the spark is back, or because I'm a glutton for punishment, I'm not quite sure yet.  ;)

Perhaps instead of reading this book, you should start with The Gardella Vampire Chronicles, as it is one of the best series I've ever read!

A Little about my local SPCA:

(Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals)

The SPCA of Brazoria County is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to leading Brazoria County to a time when there are no more homeless pets in our community.

Founded in 1974, the SPCA-BC has operated the Southern Brazoria County Animal Shelter since 2003. The Shelter is an open admission facility serving the Cities of Freeport, Clute, and Lake Jackson, Texas.

In order to reach our vision of “No More Homeless Pets,” the SPCA-BC is focused on four primary objectives:

Education. All animals have value and should be treated with compassion and respect. We believe in promoting responsible pet ownership, teaching children compassion toward animals, fostering a community of support for animal welfare, and bringing animal welfare issues to the forefront of community awareness.

Spay/Neuter. The only way to break the cycle of pet overpopulation in our community is to prevent unwanted pets from ever being born. Spayed and neutered pets are healthier, happier, and make better companions. We are committed to providing low-cost, high-volume spay and neuter procedures to our community.

Adoption. Adoptions are vital to our life-saving mission. Every pet deserves a loving home. We work hard each day to find homes for the homeless pets in our care.

A World-Class Shelter. Every pet deserves a home, but the reality is that there are thousands of homeless pets right here in our own community. We provide shelter, medical care, and a place of refuge for homeless pets as they wait to find their forever homes.

PLEASE check out your local animal shelters and consider donating. When you see 'donation' most people automatically think $$ - but that is not the case with shelters; while money does help, donating food, bedding, cat litter, collars, leashes, newspapers, toys, litter boxes, food bowls, pet carriers, scratching posts, treats, animal shampoo, hand sanitizer, and most of all your time! Volunteering your time and/or services can sometimes be the biggest help!
Call your local shelter and ask them what they need most.

Excerpt

The chorus of clinking metal made me realize they were all chained by the neck, controlled by someone who could retract the chains when they wanted to pull them back into the holes. These were guard dogs, kept to attack the enemy at the entrance of the hidden fortress. They were nothing but puppets packed like sardines in the hidden encasements, starved and ready for anything living to chew on. Great. Who knew how many were holed up in the slots, as more and more poured out, hungry and ready for fresh blood?

“There’s too many!” Sarah shrieked above the groans and screeches of the dead. Her sword slashed though two of them at one time, separating one from his arm and cutting the other cleanly in half. Swinging the sword around one more time, she decapitated the armless one, who was still headed for her, before finishing off the one crawling on the ground in a sticky pile of guts and gore.
This was going to be an epic mess.

Giveaway - The Voodoo Prophecies and the Original Sinner by Chris Lunda

The Apostle Paul and the Kabye people of West Africa foretold these truths; truths so disturbing to the church that they were buried long ago deep within the archives with the other inconvenient texts. Born at the time of creation, christened in the flames of demonic
possession and hammered upon the forge of slavery, the Voodoo prophecies are known to few men.

Centuries have passed since the mass possession of seventeen nuns in France, yet the survivors, the afflicted and immortal servants of the church gather in the capital of French Louisiana to battle ‘the wanderer’, the infernal prince and only son of Lucifer.

Catholic priest and Voodoo priestess alike prepare for his return and await the arrival of the chosen ones not expecting seven unassuming suburbanites, several coming of age who were only first intrigued by history and then ensnared by the mystical and find themselves trapped in an apocalyptic journey.
This is their story. It is undeniable and deep in the recesses of your heart, in that place where ancient bloodlines intertwine, it will resonate and you will believe it.

Here is an excerpt from the book:

…as we reached the end of the cool, dark bricked passageway, we arrived at a beautiful courtyard displaying an explosion of greenery that created a wonderful floral kaleidoscope. Ferns were hanging everywhere. Some reached down from above as they clung to the railing of the courtyard balconies. Others embraced the three gas lanterns whose flames flickered in accord as a soft breeze blew the draping fern leaves to and fro.

Rubber tree plants standing at rigid attention in the corners pointed the way towards twining stems of wisteria that had succeeded in their long climb up the rock face of the twelve foot brick walls and celebrated their journey by showering the structure with pendulous purple clusters of efflorescence. Lush azalea bushes buttressed those walls providing a white, red and purple foundation to the serenity.

Dominating the colorful array and standing right in the center of the courtyard was one of the most amazing fountains I had ever seen. Over six feet tall and constructed from some heavy alloy; seven angels stood at its base and held above them as if they were holding up the heavens a large gilded bowl whose centerpiece was a king's crown complete with a magnificent fleur de lis.

It was on that day and in those few moments that I discovered the true beauty of the French Quarter lay hidden behind a cloak of high courtyard walls tucked safely away from the prying eyes of tourists.

Fifty Shades of Alice in Wonderland, a Fairytale for Adults

BEYOND 50 SHADES OF GREY...
Eighteen-year-old Alice is unhappy. Her boyfriend is nice and polite, but he's also quick and careless in bed, and doesn't give Alice the attention and variety she craves. But he's not entirely to blame, because Alice herself doesn't understand her own needs. She's heard about what sex is supposed to be like, but has never felt anything remotely close to what she's read about in runaway bestselling books.

BEYOND 9 1/2 WEEKS...
Then Alice follows a vibrating white rabbit down a deep, dark hole, which leads to a place beyond her wildest imagination. There are no nice boys--or girls--down here. Only those who indulge in secret, forbidden, kinky fantasies.

BEYOND PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES...
Alice is confused and frightened and... aroused. She is bound. Teased. Spanked. Toyed. Brought to the limits of sexual endurance. And during her trials, she begins to understand her body's needs for the very first time.

BEYOND THUNDERDOME...
This isn't the fairy tale you grew up reading. This isn't for children at all.
This is for those with dark desires, who wish to explore erotic excess beyond the plain vanilla of everyday life. Follow Alice down the rabbit hole, if you dare...

Review

I have no words to describe this very naughty version of Alice in Wonderland...

Okay, so that's not true, but WOW is the first to come to mind!

I didn't expect much from this book but I just couldn't pass up a chance to read an adult version of a classic children's fairy tail. To my surprise I really enjoyed it. It was hilarious and yet erotic. I love that the characters themselves were making fun of the parody and occasionally referring to the real world and a few of our giant corporations. (You can buy it on Amazon...)

The Mad Hatter and crew were full of puns and sarcasm and seriously had me laughing out loud - not something I've ever found myself doing while reading erotica. I didn't think it was possible to incorporate comedy, bdsm, and a classic children's fairy tale, but Melinda DuChamp pulled it off beautifully. She's quite clever.

I loved it and have already downloaded the second. Highly recommended!

This book is perfect for anyone interested in a fun and yet erotic short read. It will break up the monotony of reading the same genres over and over.

Here is an Excerpt from the book

The fairy man took off his sunglasses, revealing pale green eyes like the edge of a glacier.

Her heart stopped. Or time stopped. That split second hung incomplete as her brain tried to rationalize what she was seeing. It couldn’t be him. Not here. Not now. Her heart gave a beat and noise rushed back in to fill the silence she hadn’t noticed. Felan, the fairy Prince who’d ridden away with her heart and never thought to return it, was in the coffee shop. She blinked and glanced away, pretending she didn’t recognize him.

The doctors who’d told her fairies weren’t real had never been confronted with the truth—the truth that was walking steadily closer to the counter as if it wanted to order a cup of coffee.

Last time, it had been hard to say anything with her mother standing there. He’d never come back and given her the chance to speak or explain what had happened. And she’d never had the chance to ask him to send the monsters away. Everyone had just thought she was crazy. Then, as the years had passed in drug-induced grayness, she’d begun to hope that she would never see him or any fairy again. It hurt too much.

As he strolled toward her, the old doubts began to rise. Why was he here now? Had he come back, thinking it wasn’t too late, that maybe only days had passed when it had been years? Or had he come to take her to Annwyn? Why would he bother chasing her? He could have any woman he wanted. She was just the girl who he believed killed his baby.

If he wanted revenge, he was a little late. She’d been to hell and back, and she had nothing to say to him.

He glanced at her and looked away as if he didn’t recognize her.

Maybe he didn’t. She’d grown up and changed. She’d had to.

He hadn’t changed a bit. His cheekbones could still weaken women’s knees, and the curve of his lips could melt hearts. But it was the way he acted, as if he didn’t know women were watching him over their coffee cups. The trouble was she knew it wasn’t an act. When he’d been with her, his attention had always been on her. He’d made her feel like the most beautiful woman in the room even if she wasn’t. He’d had a confidence she’d always lacked.

He’d seemed stable, calm, and wise, while at the same time he’d craved freedom from Annwyn. That her parents had hated him had been the cherry on top. He’d been her rebellion. Even though he knew that her parents didn’t like him, he’d always insisted on being polite and behaved himself around them, as if he thought he could eventually win them over. He believed family was important. And she’d lost his baby. She’d never forget the look on his face when her mother had said it was gone. Felan calling her name even as the door shut. She’d cried until her mother had forced her to take a sleeping pill. She’d slept so many hours away, hiding from reality.

He really had no right to be here, messing up her new life with his charm and looks.

Ash almost raced around the counter to take his order. Her eyes were bright and unable to look away from the fairy. That had been her once, stumbling into his arms, head over heels into love. Crawling out had been much harder than getting in. It was kind of like those coils of barbed wire and the mud pits army recruits have to slog through and over, only it had lasted for years.

She busied herself wiping the coffee machine and filling the next order on her list. It was better this way, that he didn’t recognize her. Easier if she never had to explain herself or listen to his reasons for abandoning her. Love. Fairies didn’t know the meaning of the word.

“Latte, please.” His voice was soft and smooth, just the way she liked to remember, not the tortured cry she’d heard last from his lips.

Jacqui had to close her eyes to hold back the memories. She opened her eyes, expecting him to be looking, but he’d taken his table number and found a seat by the window. Then he busied himself reading the newspaper. He had always liked to follow news from around the globe.

She frowned. How long had it been since he’d been in the mortal world?

Ash slapped the order in front of her. “How gorgeous is he? I bet he’s an actor or something.”

Or something was closer to the truth. “Trouble I bet.” Jacqui glanced at the till, wondering how he’d paid. When they’d been together, she’d helped him set up a bank account. Did he still use it, or had he simply tricked Ash into thinking he’d paid?

“I wouldn’t mind that kind of trouble.” Ash sighed.

Jacqui looked at Ash. She wasn’t even twenty, but she was pretty—she’d be prettier if she didn’t bleach her hair to within an inch of its life and she quit the fake tan. She looked like every other girl here. Didn’t everyone go through that phase of trying to fit in? Jacqui had dyed her brown hair black and straightened it every day through high school, partly to fit in but mostly because her parents had hated it.

“You would when he left you heartbroken.” The words came with more bitterness than she’d planned.

Ash raised her eyebrows. “You have to kiss toads to find a prince.”

“I don’t want a prince.” She’d had that once, and she wouldn’t make the same mistake again.
