Review: Twice Tempted (Night Prince #2) by: J. Frost

Dating the Prince of Darkness has its challenges...

Leila's psychic abilities have been failing her, and now she isn't sure what the future holds. If that weren't enough, her lover, Vlad, has been acting distant. Though Leila is a mere mortal, she's also a modern woman who refuses to accept the cold shoulder treatment forever–especially from the darkly handsome vampire who still won't admit that he loves her.

Like choosing between eternal love and a loveless eternity...

Soon circumstances send Leila back to the carnival circuit, where tragedy strikes. And when she finds herself in the crosshairs of a killer who may be closer than she realizes, Leila must decide who to trust– the fiery vampire who arouses her passions like no other or the tortured knight who longs to be more than a friend? With danger stalking her every step of the way, all it takes is one wrong move to damn her for eternity.

Review:

As always, with Jeaniene Frost books I'm left wanting more. I couldn't put it down, until I lost the battle with sleep - but finished it first thing this morning!

The storyline is typical for JF, full of action, excitement and anticipation. There's never a dull moment, or filler in her books! It's interesting from beginning to end - though this one was a bit predictable. I didn't always know what was going to happen, bit I did figure out the who's pretty early on. Other than not being surprised, I was thrilled with this book and can't wait to read more!

(I reviewed the first book in the series, here)

Review: Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs, by Molly Harper

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed twenty-five dollars in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead. And thanks to the mysterious stranger she met while chugging neon-colored cocktails, she wakes up with a decidedly unladylike thirst for blood.
Jane is now the latest recipient of a gift basket from the Newly Undead Welcoming Committee, and her life-after-lifestyle is taking some getting used to. Her recently deceased favorite aunt is now her ghostly roommate. She has to fake breathing and endure daytime hours to avoid coming out of the coffin to her family. She's forced to forgo her favorite down-home Southern cooking for bags of O negative. Her relationship with her sexy, mercurial vampire sire keeps running hot and cold. And if all that wasn't enough, it looks like someone in Half Moon Hollow is trying to frame her for a series of vampire murders. What's a nice undead girl to do?

Review:

I absolutely loved this book!
I read a short story, The Undead in my bed (click to see review), that actually falls much later in the series. It was so good that I decided to start at the beginning, and I am so glad I did!
Molly seems to channel my inner sarcasm into her characters! Jane is hilarious, even when she's not trying to be and I caught myself laughing out loud more than once, causing some strange looks from the people around me.

I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Review: The Secret Circle (books 4 and 5)

Keep your enemies close. . . .
For the first time since moving to New Salem, Cassie Blake feels normal. She's dating her soul mate Adam and making new friends in town. But between the secret coven of witches she belongs to and the incredible power she holds within her, Cassie is leading a far from ordinary life. When tragedy strikes the Circle, Cassie realizes being extraordinary can be a curse.

The Circle is being hunted by an unknown enemy—and anyone could be the next victim. As they struggle to protect themselves, alliances are formed and relationships are tested. No one knows who to trust or who to fear. Will Cassie be able to save the Circle . . . and herself? Or will her choices break it apart forever?

Review:
                  ** spoiler alert **

The original books by LJ Smith were really good, this one seemed just as cheesy as the TV show was.
Throughout the whole thing it seems like Cassie is torn between Adam and Nick... but if your SO in love with Adam, your soul mate - why are you fawning all over Nick? Then you have the predictable 'sister' is she good, is she bad... it causes drama with the circle. blah blah

It's all been written before, the twists were so predictable that it took away what little suspense the storyline should of had.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

There's no turning back. . . .
For Cassie and her Circle of witches, it's hard to imagine life in New Salem getting any worse. A band of powerful witch hunters is targeting the group, determined to destroy them one by one. And Cassie's half sister, Scarlett, won't rest until she has a spot in the Circle--even if she has to kill Cassie to get it.

The Circle's only hope against their enemies is Cassie's father's Book of Shadows--an ancient guide to the world of dark magic. But Cassie soon discovers that opening the book has grave consequences. Cassie's drawn in by the book's sinister spell, and it starts controlling her emotions and impulses, unraveling her relationship with Adam as it takes over her life.

Cassie fights against the darkness inside her as the threats against the Circle grow. But once evil is let in, she may never escape. . .

Review:

As with the previous book in the series, I prefer LJ's writing - but this one was a little better. The story picked up it's pace a bit and there were a few twists that I actually didn't see coming!
It's just interesting enough that I'll be reading the next one to see what happens.
